Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Scott and Annie Shull of Raptor Ridge Winery. The interview took place at Raptor Ridge Winery in Newberg, Oregon on January 21, 2019.

Scott Shull is the founder and winegrower at Raptor Ridge Winery, where Annie Shull serves as the proprietor and director of national sales, marketing, and distribution. In this interview, the Shulls talk about how they wound up owning and managing a winery, despite having no intention of getting into the production side of things. Scott talks about how they ended up in Oregon, their initial impressions of the Oregon wine industry, and balancing two full-time jobs before moving into the industry full-time. The Shulls also discuss some of the challenges they have faced while working together, such as not competing with one another. They speak about the changes they’ve seen in the Oregon wine industry, as well as the future for both the industry as a whole and for Raptor Ridge.
