Abstract
This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Herb and Eleanor Sims of Barrel Fence Cellars. The interview took place at Barrel Fence Cellars in Dundee, Oregon on August 14, 2019.
Herb and Eleanor Sims are the co-owners of Barrel Fence Cellars. In this interview, the couple talks about how they got into the wine industry, how they obtained their property, and their land purchase in New Zealand. They explain the similarities and differences between New Zealand and Oregon wine, as well as what it’s like managing separate locations. Towards the end of the interview, they discuss the Oregon wine industry, and Herb discusses his passion for preserving the industry’s history. To conclude, the couple touches on the future both for them and for the Oregon wine industry.
