Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College Archives staff Stephanie Hofmann with Jesús Guillén of White Rose Estate and Guillén Family Wines. The interview took place at the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College on June 25, 2018.

Jesús Guillén is head winemaker at White Rose Estate. In this interview, Guillén discusses his journey from having a background in computer science to finding a passion and appreciation for wine. He also tells the story of how he came to Oregon from Mexico and the limitations/adversity he faced as an immigrant winemaker. Guillén explains his philosophy for creating wine (to evoke memories) and the ways in which he feels diversity can be improved – namely, by changing the language and narrative of wine to include minorities and gain better visibility for them.
