Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with David and Jeanne Beck of Crawford Beck Vineyard. The interview took place at Crawford Beck Vineyard in Amity, Oregon on December 3, 2019.

David and Jeanne Beck are the co-owners of Crawford Beck Vineyard. In this interview, the couple discusses how they got into wine after their previous careers as scientists, as well as how they ended up in Oregon in 2005. The Becks explain the transition in shifting their careers to wine, their philosophy, and their initial knowledge and experience level with Oregon wine. They talk about Linfield College’s wine program, the relationships they’ve forged in the industry, and the uniqueness of their terroir. The Becks conclude the interview by reflecting on changes to the Oregon wine industry, along with what they see for its future.
