Abstract
This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with David Polite of Carlton Hill Vineyard. The interview took place at Carlton Hill Wine Company in Carlton, Oregon on June 18, 2019.
David Polite is the owner and winemaker at Carlton Hill Vineyard. In this interview, Polite talks about how he got into wine after his education at Reed College and subsequently Chemeketa Community College, as well as how he acquired his land: "I just knew it was right." He explains the uniqueness of his east-facing land, his grape-growing and winemaking philosophies, and his business model. Towards the end of the interview, Polite talks about the Yamhill-Carlton AVA (American Viticulatural Area), changes to the Oregon wine industry, and his proudest accomplishments.
