Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Doug Tunnell of Brick House Vineyards. The interview took place at Brick House Vineyards in Newberg, Oregon on July 11, 2019.

Doug Tunnell is the founder and owner of Brick House Vineyards. In this interview, Tunnell talks about his love for wine, his studies abroad, previous work experience as a former correspondent with CBS, and what eventually led him to choosing wine. He also discusses why he chose the land, how he learned to grow grapes, his approach to biodynamic farming, the growth of the estate, and his winemaking philosophy. Tunnell talks about his relationship as a trustee at Linfield College, his perspective on the institution's wine studies program, and the biggest changes he’s seen within the Oregon wine industry since he first entered it. Tunnell concludes the interview by explaining what he sees for the future of his business.
