Abstract
This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Pam Walden of Willful Wine Company. The interview took place at Way Down Wines in Portland, Oregon on April 26, 2019.
Pam Walden is the owner and winemaker at Willful Wine Company. In this interview, Walden discusses getting into the wine industry by accident and moving from England to Oregon after working in the advertising industry. She also speaks about the challenges that came with learning about and being in the industry, as well as what makes her Pinot Noir “willful,” with its feminine, complex characteristics. Towards the end of the interview, Walden explains the advantages of having an urban winery, her winemaking philosophy, future plans, and her outlook on the Oregon wine industry’s future.
