Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Cristina Gonzales of Gonzales Wine Company. The interview took place in Portland, Oregon on June 27, 2019.

Cristina Gonzales is the founder and winemaker at Gonzales Wine Company, which she started in 2009. In this interview, Gonzales talks about how she became interested in wine while living in Chile and Argentina, later deciding to go into the industry because she wanted to travel and experience more. Gonzales discusses how she ended up in Oregon growing Pinot Noir, falling in love with the community and people, her winemaking philosophy, and marketing strategies. She describes what it's like being a woman in the wine industry, and she closes the interview by explaining the changes she's seen in Oregon's wine industry and her plans for the future.
