Beyond the Vines: Latinos in the Oregon Wine Industry
Beyond the Vines: Latinos in the Oregon Wine Industry is an exhibit that focuses on Latinos in the Oregon wine industry. Key themes – migration stories, work in the vineyards, career success, the ¡Salud! program, and life beyond the vineyards – are explored in order to tell the story of the Oregon wine industry more fully. Beyond the Vines demonstrates the Oregon wine industry’s strong sense of community, as well as the breadth of work being done by Latinos as part of this community.
This exhibit was created by Linfield students Julian Adoff and Lydia Heins as part of the Keck Summer Collaborative Research Program under the auspices of the Linfield Center for the Northwest. Adoff and Heins worked with Linfield faculty members Sharon Bailey Glasco (Associate Professor of History) and Jeff Peterson (Associate Professor of Sociology and Director of the Linfield Center for the Northwest), and Linfield Archivist Rachael Woody. The research drew from and expanded on archival material located at Linfield's Jereld R. Nicholson Library as part of the Oregon Wine History Archive. A physical exhibition, featuring information and artifacts, as well as personal stories, was staged in T.J. Day Hall during the 2013 International Pinot Noir Celebration.
