Description
Moe Momtazi is photographed during an oral history interview at Maysara Winery in McMinnville, Oregon on December 5, 2017. Momtazi was interviewed by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt.
Moe Momtazi is the owner of Maysara Winery, where daughter Hanna Momtazi oversees sales, marketing, and events. In 1997, Moe and his wife Flora purchased 496 acres of wheat farm that would become Momtazi Vineyard. In March 1998, the family planted their first Pinot Noir vines, avoiding the use of chemicals and added minerals to get the most natural results. Their philosophy is a "from nature to nature" approach that uses compost teas made from medicinal flowers and herbs grown on site to enrich the soil in the vineyard. The results are award-winning wines that follow the biodynamic model of winemaking and avoid negatively impacting the land.
