Abstract
This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Carl and Tara McKnight of Pheasant Run Winery and St. Josef's Winery. The interview took place at St. Josef's Winery in Canby, Oregon on January 22, 2019.
Carl and Tara McKnight own Pheasant Run Winery in Aurora, Oregon and manage St. Josef's Winery in Canby, Oregon. In this interview, the McKnights discuss how Tara was born into the wine industry (she is the daughter of Josef and Lilli Fleischmann, the founders of St. Josef's Winery), while Carl married into the industry after a previous career in the beer industry. They talk about how they developed their roles at St. Josef’s, as well as the challenges of having their own label. The McKnights also discuss the future of the Oregon wine industry and what makes its wines so distinctive, as well as their hopes for the future of their businesses.
