Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Joe Allan and Karen Saul of Andanté Vineyard. The interview took place at Andanté Vineyard in Dallas, Oregon on January 12, 2019.

Joe Allan and Karen Saul are co-owners of Andanté Vineyard. In this interview, Allan and Saul discuss why they got into wine and the difficulties that come with owning a vineyard. They talk about naming the vineyard, how they determined the roles they would play in conjunction with the other work they do, and why they chose sustainable farming. Saul explains why and how Andanté became part of the Van Duzer Corridor AVA (American Viticultural Area), and Allan describes what it means to have their brand be a part of the Oregon wine industry. They also talk about the future of both Andanté and the Oregon wine industry.
