Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Susan Teppola of Laurel Ridge Winery. The interview took place at Laurel Ridge Winery in Carlton, Oregon on August 20, 2019.

Susan Teppola is the co-founder (with her late husband, David) and owner of Laurel Ridge Winery. In this interview, Teppola describes how she got into wine through her husband’s passion for wine, the process of staring the winery, and what it was like when they first began. Teppola talks about figuring out her roles and responsibilities of carrying on with the winery after David's death in 2006, what it’s like working with family, and what it’s like being a resource to other people in the industry. She describes watching the area grow up and the changes she’s seen, and she explains what she envisions for the future of the Oregon wine industry and for Laurel Ridge. To conclude the interview, Teppola offers words of wisdom for individuals looking to enter the industry.
