Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rachael Cristine Woody with Don Graves. The interview took place at Graves’s home in Dallesport, Washington on June 14, 2014. Topics included how Graves started growing grapes, the history of wine in the Columbia Gorge, and Dr. Walter J. Clore of Washington State University.

In the interview, Graves discusses how he met Dr. Clore and Clore’s influence not only on Graves’s interest in growing wine grapes but also the growth of the wine industry in the Columbia Gorge. Graves also discusses dividing his time between working at Bonneville Dam and starting a vineyard.
