Abstract

Mr. David Lum, Linfield class of 1958, is a former PE teacher and founder/owner of Lum’s Auto Center, which has two locations in Oregon and one in Washington.

This interview takes place at the Linfield University McMinnville campus, conducted by Linfield archivist Rich Schmidt, on January 24, 2022.

In this interview, Mr. Lum speaks about his early years growing up as a Chinese-American in Astoria, Oregon, especially during the 1930s and 1940s. He also speaks about the influences that led him to Linfield, people he remembers from his time there, and his early career post-graduation. Mr. Lum also discusses his career in car sales and important take-aways from his experiences as he reflects on his life.
