This collection of documents pertains to the life and work of Dr. Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds, an ecologist and former professor of Biology at Linfield College. Many were written by Dr. Dirks-Edmunds, including during her undergraduate work at Linfield College and her graduate work at the University of Illinois. Also included is the undergraduate textbook she authored and non-scholarly works she wrote later in her life.
Dr. Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds graduated from Linfield College in 1937 and returned to teach at her alma mater for nearly 30 years. She devoted 50 years of her life to studying the Douglas fir trees along Oregon’s coastline; hers is the most comprehensive ecological study in the Northwest.
