Abstract

Magnetic coupling for transferring torques has been accepted widely by industry now. Major advantages of magnetic coupling include barriers can be put in between two coupled shifts and there are larger tolerances allowed for the alignment of coupled shifts. In this summer research, several arrangements of face magnetic coupling were built and tested. An empirical formula was developed for a quick easy design of a face magnetic coupling. A homemade water pump using magnetic coupling was designed using the results of this research. This pump will be completed in January term of 2019.

Comments

This research was conducted as part of a Linfield College Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Grant in 2018, funded by the Office of Academic Affairs.

The student collaborator was Nick Villalobos.
