Description
This hand-drawn map created by Dr. Jane Claire Dirks-Edmunds shows the vegetation in Hectare 17 at her Saddleback Mountain research site. The map of the Douglas Fir-Hemlock Community was most likely drawn while Dirks-Edmunds was writing her doctoral thesis, in which she compared the Douglas fir forest on Saddleback to an oak-hickory forest in Illinois.
Dr. Dirks-Edmunds graduated from Linfield College in 1937; she returned to teach in the Biology department at Linfield from 1941-1974.
