Description
This poster details the process of stage managing Linfield College Theatre’s November 2016 production of The Madwoman of Chaillot. A stage manager works closely with the director to record creative decisions made during the rehearsal process, such as blocking and use of properties. A stage manager also serves as a coordinator/liaison among all members of the directing, design, and production staff. Given the collaborative nature of theatre, as liaison the stage manger is central to creating successful communication among the production staff and the actors. Once performances begin, the stage manager is in charge of making certain actors and all of the technical elements are ready for the opening curtain, as well as calling all of the technical (lighting, sound, media) cues throughout the performance. One of the stage manager’s principal jobs is to create the prompt book for the production. This document becomes the “bible” that provides all of the details for the performance. This poster includes pages from the prompt book that provide examples of the various elements involved in the performance of the play.
This project was presented at the 2017 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival’s Design, Technology, and Management Competition in Denver, Colorado.
