Description
The third and fourth movements from Kenji Bunch's Cookbook for Clarinet and Piano, "Heirloom" and "La Ultima Noche en la Casa del Flamenco" are musical homages to different aspects of cuisine. "Heirloom" celebrates the rich history present in the American culinary tradition, both in the evolution of recipes and the ingredients with which we cook, creating a feeling of nostalgic longing and a sense of distance as the composer pays tribute to the roots of American cuisine. In contrast, "La Ultima Noche en la Casa del Flamenco" mimics and applauds the spectacle that surrounds food, particularly in the restaurant setting, with a flashy retelling of an experience had by the composer listening to a Flamenco band in a Mexican Restaurant.
