Description
Approximately 80 people per day are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in the United States. This disease causes a lifelong dependency on pumped or injected insulin, carrying with it the constant danger of devastating complications. This online multimedia piece portrays three type 1 diabetic Linfield College students and their 24/7/365 day a year struggle to stay healthy. Diabetics have to pay attention to all of the food they eat, beverages they drink, energy exerted, the impact of stress, sickness and so on because the body’s immune system attacks and kills the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. This story has four interviews, featuring each diabetic and their personal trials, as well as an interview with an endocrinologist. It includes audio and photographs. The story is told in the first person.
