Description
I estimated an equation for GDP per capita growth in a panel of 129 countries over the years 1980-2010. Growth is specified as a function of lagged life expectancy, mean years of schooling, level of openness, and the initial level of gross domestic product per capita. Life expectancy and mean years of schooling are found to have a positive effect on growth regardless of a country’s income level. Openness and the initial level of GDP are found to have significant effects on growth in only the lowest income countries.
