Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Allen Meadows, the owner of Burghound.com. The interview took place in the Jereld R. Nicholson Library at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon on July 29, 2017.

Allen Meadows is the founder of Burghound.com, a website devoted exclusively to Burgundy/Pinot Noir wines, with rotating coverage of Champagnes/Sparklers. In service to the website, Meadows spends more than five months a year in Burgundy visiting, researching, tasting, exploring, and evaluating. In this interview, Meadows discusses how he started his business, his writing philosophy, and his thoughts on the current wine culture in the United States. He also talks about what makes Pinot Noir unique and the characteristics that make for a perfect Pinot Noir.
