Volume 11, Number 1 (2014) Summer 2014
In the language of wine, terroir – a sense of place – is critical. Soil, climate, location and topography are key ingredients of terroir. Thanks to its location, Linfield has become engaged in the growing Oregon wine industry. In this issue we follow five Linfield students who gained an in-depth look at the business from vine to wine to consumer. We say farewell to seven faculty who retire with a total of 179 years of service to the college. Two students share their Linfield experiences: one who is committed to service on every level, and the other whose life was forever changed by a literature class. These and other stories are but a few examples of how Linfield is creating a sense of place for all students through dedicated faculty, experiential learning, partnerships with Northwest industries, and a commitment to service. Students are finding terroir – their place – at Linfield and in the world.
