Abstract
Richard Berkey was a third-year pre-med student at Indiana University in the fall of 1942 when he was drafted into the United States Army. Berkey's wartime journal, letters, and a wide variety of historical documents provide the core of the book Waiting for Peace: The Journals and Correspondence of a World War II Combat Medic. With the support of Student-Faculty Collaborative Research Grants from Linfield College, a team of students and faculty adapted Berkey's compelling story of war and personal transformation for online presentation through interactive multimedia. This lecture explores the scholarly and creative processes that go into the development and presentation of a documentary in this emerging form.
