Abstract
AM Northwest program host Jim Bosley interviews Phillip DeVito, the maître d’hôtel and cellar master for the fine dining and wine program at Salishan Lodge in Gleneden Beach, Oregon. DeVito, who spent his early career in Portland and was good friends with Bosley, discusses both his career and Oregon wine.
Included in the segment:
- Wine buyers Craig Peck (of Grapery) and Kelly Dawson (of Belinda's Restaurant) conduct a blind taste test. Both were former employees of DeVito's who were trained at Salishan. The wines poured were from Acacia in Napa, California, The Eyrie Vineyards in Dundee, Oregon, and Louie Latour of Burgundy, France.
- DeVito mentions the award-winning wine collection he has built at Salishan, consisting of 32,000 bottles. The Salishan wine list is also displayed.
- DeVito explains that "Oregon has the climate now to produce Pinot Noirs as good as the French."
