Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt with Melissa Burr of Stoller Family Estate. The interview took place at Stoller Family Estate in Dayton, Oregon on January 24, 2019.

Melissa Burr is director of winemaking at Stoller Family Estate. In this interview, Burr discusses how she fell in love with the emerging wine industry in Oregon and how her science background informed her role in the industry. She talks about facing challenges in the industry, including having to balance the demands of a new job with being a new mother, as well as the impact of increased numbers of women in the wine industry. Burr also describes her winemaking philosophy and what sustainability means to her and her job. Lastly, Burr offers insight as to what the future holds for the Oregon wine industry and for Stoller Family Estate.
