Abstract

This interview is an oral history conducted by Linfield College Archives staff Stephanie Hofmann with Laurent Montalieu of NW Wine Company, Soléna Estate, and Westmount Wines. The interview took place at NW Wine Company in Dundee, Oregon on September 5, 2017.

Laurent Montalieu is the owner of NW Wine Company, a custom winegrowing facility. He is also the co-founder and executive winemaker at Westmount Wine Company, and co-owner (with his wife, Danielle Andrus Montalieu) of Soléna Estate. In this interview, part of the Brooks Winery 20th Anniversary Project, Montalieu discusses the unexpected passing of Jimi Brooks, the founder of Brooks Winery, in September of 2004. Many of Brooks's wine industry friends, including Montalieu, came together to complete Brooks's harvest that year. This interview sheds light on the story of camaraderie in the face of tragedy in the Oregon wine industry.
