Abstract

Dr. Joan Haaland Paddock (professor of music at Linfield College) plays the lur, a wooden horn, and presents some of the history and folklore of Norway.

The year is 1612. Scottish mercenaries have invaded Norway and journey east to join Swedish forces in the Kalmar War against the Danish/Norse kingdom. The Scots destroy all in their path. Who can stop them? The haunting sound made by a young woman with the wooden trumpet will save her people.
