This is a piece of a memoir that braids together two stories and two journeys. One journey occurred in 1984-85, when my parents' transcontinental bike trip took them from Japan to Europe, and finally, across the United States to Oregon. The other thread is a reflection on my own athletic trials, as I process their adventures, their old photos, and their existence in a very different world from today's.
