Sconces above wine barrels illuminate the cellar at J. Christopher Wines in Newberg, Oregon. This photograph was taken during an oral history interview with Jay Somers on August 30, 2017. Somers was interviewed by Linfield College archivist Rich Schmidt.

Jay Somers is the owner and winemaker at J. Christopher Wines. Previously a brewer for McMenamins, Somers learned winemaking at Adelsheim Vineyard and Cameron Winery in Oregon, as well as Dry Creek Vineyard in New Zealand, before founding J. Christopher Wines in 1996. Somers crafts wines in the Old World style and follows biodynamic principles for making wine.
