Abstract

The primary goal of my visit was to present about my research concerning cultural representations of baseball in Japan in a public presentation at Rikkyo University in Tokyo, one of our partner institutions in Japan. I took feedback from that presentation along with consultations with colleagues and gathered materials related to my research project. By the time I went to Japan, I was in the final stages of my research project, but still struggled with a few questions that needed to be addressed. I obtained research materials in the library at Rikkyo University, from the Museum of Modern Literature in Tokyo, and from several bookstores including Biblio, which specializes in baseball books. As a result of this grant experience I was able to complete my manuscript and have submitted it to a publisher for review. In addition, on behalf of IPO I visited two of our institutional partners in order to discuss the possibility of expanding our student exchange programs to include, on our side, students with no previous Japanese language learning experience. We are in the process of updating our exchange agreements.
